Bidders are required to agree to the terms and conditions of every auction they participate in, so it is important to know what they contain. Auction companies post both the legal requirements for bidders as well as important information regarding their sale. Many auction companies include information about deposits, payment, and pick-up in this section. The terms and conditions are a good resource for what happens before and after the sale.
2. Talk to the auction company.
Once you register for an auction on Bidspotter, your registration is sent to the auction company hosting the sale, for their review and approval. The best way to ensure that you are approved is to talk to the auction company. Not only can they inform you of any missing forms, deposits, or information they need from you, but you will have the opportunity to learn more about the items you are interested in and make arrangements for any lots you may win. As an added bonus, having a conversation with the auction company shows your interest in their auction and makes them see you as a serious bidder.
3. Place absentee bids (pre-bids) on items you are interested in.
Our system allows you to place absentee bids in advance so you do not have to wait for the lot you are interested in. Take advantage of this feature to ensure that your bids are placed as quickly as possible whether you are watching or not. Our technicians bid the way you would, advancing incrementally as other bidders bid against you. You can place a maximum bid secure in the knowledge that our system bids with your best interests in mind.
4. Test your system before the day of the auction
Whether you are a new bidder or returning bidder, it is important to make sure your computer and network set up can access the auction correctly. For a live auction you need to have the current versions of both java and flash installed. It is advised to view an auction as a guest a few days before your auction to double check your set up and familiarize yourself with the live interface. If you need help updating your java or if you are not sure if you have it installed or not, please call the Customer Service Department at 1-866-597-2437.
5. Sign into the live interface at least 30 minutes before the auction start time.
For live sales give yourself ample time before the sale starts to settle in and make sure you are able to log into the live interface. Take the time before the sale to call in with any last minute questions, place any absentee bids you would like, and familiarize yourself with how to bid.
